Investigators: Crashed Spanair jet had wing flaps retracted
A passenger jet that crashed last month in Madrid did not have its wing flaps deployed during takeoff, and a cockpit warning system failed to alert pilots to the problem, a source familiar with the investigation told CNN on Tuesday. |

12 years ago today, on November 23, 1996, an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 767-260ER ditched into the sea off the coast of Moroni, in the Comoros Islands of Madagascar. The aircraft had run out of fuel during an attempted hijacking. 125 of the 175 passengers and crew aboard were killed. |
